If we simply transfer every nat team guy to Leeds, then Jesse can coach both Leeds and the nats without having to spend time scouting guys

Now I want to do an FM save like this

u/edjg10 New Jersey Feb 02 '23

I used to do this in fifa manager mode all the time. Ironically, I last did it with leeds in fifa 20 I think lol which is strange because I never used to do it with anyone besides RBNY or man utd

I did it with Leeds too in fifa 22, but we don't have a great striker so I just bought Haaland to play up top

I trained up Josh Sargent to like 78 after 2 seasons. So he did the job. Weah was my backup striker. Pretty sure I got gio up to like 82 with 90+ vision in 1 one season

I miss fifa lol

I actually started one last week, but had to do it in Bundesliga due to registration restrictions in other leagues. It’s a lot of fun. But I have the same struggle finding a 9 as the real USMNT

There was that time Leonid Slutsky was managing both CSKA Moscow and Russia at the same time. I trust Jesse to make it work.

There's some arcane knowledge. Nice.

Wes kinda snubbed South American managers.

1

u/LeMouse1 Feb 02 '23

I'm pretty sure this is literally what Qatar did this year

u/Treewarf Feb 02 '23

I always kind of figure the fans have a lot stronger opinions about the manager than the players do.

18

u/Fantastic_Painter_15 Feb 02 '23

Yeah, I think players generally only have a strong opinion on their coach if the coach is exceptionally good or exceptionally bad. The 99% in between doesn’t really matter to them

9

u/johnniewelker Feb 02 '23

Do we really know what they think of their coaches? Players are limited upsides to say something strong about the coach. Fans, on the other hand, can say whatever they want without repercussions

3

u/RamandAu Feb 02 '23

Sure, most are usually just saving it for the book deal lol

I don't think this is remotely true. Wes had to make a diplomatic answer because he has no input on who is appointed and yet won't play if he doesn't get along with the guy, so he's not going to come out strongly in public.

Tyler Adams, or I riot 🔥

Player manager? Think he has a little too much on his plate.

Top twitter comment is fucking hilarious tbh

u/Matt_McT Feb 02 '23

The quintessential USMNT Twitter comment lol. We will see it forever, no matter what we accomplish.

It’s funny that there’s maybe a couple of these tweets on Twitter, but when it’s “negative”, specifically around GGG, it’s the only thing you see.

Similar to those that complained when certain players should have been apart or the camp or World Cup team, but when they aren’t playing well or at all, they’re ghosts.

Fifa Manager™ fanbase.

i mean whats he gonna say? if hypothetically he doesnt like gregg he would never say that

23

u/IncidentalIncidence North Carolina Feb 02 '23

he wasn't asked about gregg, so presumably if he didn't like gregg he just wouldn't have mentioned him.

If he didn't like Gregg he certainly wouldn't be going out of his way to praise him.

-13

u/coltj573 Feb 02 '23

thats not true, if the question is “what are your thoughts on the future coach of the usmnt” if he doesnt mention gregg fans will speculate.

17

u/IncidentalIncidence North Carolina Feb 02 '23

the question was whether the USMNT needed a European or American coach. It had nothing to do with Gregg specifically. If hypothetically he didn't like Gregg, he wouldn't be going out of his way to mention how much he liked playing for Gregg on an unrelated question.

-9

u/coltj573 Feb 02 '23

thats basically the same question. yes it could be perceived badly if he didnt mention gregg. mentioning gregg makes him look good to gregg who may be his coach. i don’t understand how this is difficult to comprehend. i even like gregg and want him to stay but this interview doesnt mean mckennie would prefer gregg and brings no new information.

10

u/IncidentalIncidence North Carolina Feb 02 '23

yes it could be perceived badly if he didnt mention gregg. mentioning gregg makes him look good to gregg who may be his coach.

let me understand, you're saying that if gregg is re-hired he would hold a grudge against a player for not mentioning his name on a completely unrelated question that had nothing to do with him specifically?

I'm sorry, that's ridiculous.

this interview doesnt mean mckennie would prefer gregg

who......who said that it did mean that?

-3

u/coltj573 Feb 02 '23

i didnt say that. why do people have to strawman to prove a point

6

u/IncidentalIncidence North Carolina Feb 02 '23

What else is "not mentioning Gregg would be perceived badly" supposed to mean?

-1

u/coltj573 Feb 02 '23

by fans? jesus christ

6

u/IncidentalIncidence North Carolina Feb 02 '23

by fans? What are you even talking about?

Edit: are you saying he's straight up lying because the fans (who've been clamoring for Gregg to be fired since last June) would be upset?

Lol he could have just said the first and last sentences. No matter what you think of Gregg, it's been made unavoidably clear that the majority of players (perhaps all but a few) enjoyed playing for him. That doesn't mean he should come back, but saying that he had to speak positively of him was ridiculous. He wasn't even asked about Gregg specifically, just of the search in general.

-2

u/coltj573 Feb 01 '23

not one american player is gonna say they prefer an american or european coach. either way it can look bad. also everyone is gonna say they liked gregg in any question relating to thoughts on a new coach to avoid speculation and bad publicity. im not even saying i dont want gregg im just pointing out this statement is exactly what any player would say and exactly what every player has said when responding to this question.

-9

u/stoneman9284 Feb 02 '23

Exactly. What are they gonna say? I hated playing for GGG? A guy who by the way hasn’t even been dismissed or replaced yet, and may not be.

15

u/StrokeZ92 Feb 02 '23

The commenters whole point was that McKennie didn’t have to say ANYTHING about Berhalter

-8

u/stoneman9284 Feb 02 '23

No, he didn’t. You’re totally right. And his silence would have been interpreted as criticism.

8

u/IncidentalIncidence North Carolina Feb 02 '23

How? The question is completely unrelated.

-5

u/stoneman9284 Feb 02 '23

The question wasn’t about GGG, totally fair. But it was about the US coaching job so I’d say it was very related. I guess he could have declined to comment altogether. But I think if he answered either way, we should be looking for an American coach or a European coach, it would have been interpreted as a vote to replace GGG whether it’s what he meant or not.

-2

u/coltj573 Feb 02 '23

yet i still get downvoted. people don’t understand saying nothing about ggg can also give you bad pr if its a question directly related to our next coach. im not even saying mckennie probably doesnt want gregg to keep coaching, im just saying this statement brings zero information to the table (even if its still entertaining to watch)

-5

u/stoneman9284 Feb 02 '23

Pointing out very simple, innocuous truths is the fastest way to get downvoted around here. You’ll get used to it quick if you aren’t already.

16

u/HouseHead78 Feb 02 '23

I have never seen someone thirstier for something to mean the literal direct opposite of what it actually means.

Just give it up this is sad.

12

u/Willsmithsdignity Feb 02 '23

Some of these people really need Gregg to be the ultimate evil all times

Why can't he just be a mediocre tactician and a great recruiter that most players seem to like? Why can't we just deal in what's actually there?

Instead we get this and that ridiculous "revenge for Reyna not signing his son" that only exists to force a bad guy narrative.

u/IncidentalIncidence North Carolina Feb 02 '23

It's like the "he's not the messiah" bit in monty python

He will carry the water. You’re right.
