She recycles 100+ year old politics, so 2 year old ideas are relatively fresh for her. I wonder if 2yo are too young for her Bobo's husband?

ETA: Confused fascist GQP thing 1 and thing 2.

Margie is in the midst of a divorce i’m pretty sure. Lauren Boebert is the one dating the sex offender pedo

328

u/devault83 Nov 29 '22 Silver

It really is tough to keep these characters straight. The casting director tried to help by casting a blonde for one role and a burnette for the other, but the characters are so similar it doesn't matter. Do the writers really need both characters? Surely they could get rid of one (or both) and improve the story.

48

u/SnackPrince Nov 29 '22

It's always good to build in a bit of redundancy

47

They are married, not dating. And he exposed himself to her and her friends when she was underage. And she still married him.

Maybe when you're that "Christian" you have to marry the first penis you see? Purity culture over the actual values espoused by Jesus. It fits.

Yeah they think this shit is hilarious. My boomer dad still uses a variation of this joke…”if you can smell a fart through your Levi’s…”

So fucking stupid.

166

u/podrick_pleasure Nov 29 '22

Have you tried explaining the difference in size between an aromatic molecule and a virus?

231

u/cthulhujr Nov 29 '22

My partner has a PhD in chemistry and literally teaches it at the college level. She has tried to explain it to her parents and they just shrug and the next time they talk they just say it again. It's willful ignorance.

107

u/BananaPalmer Nov 29 '22

This. No argument from the MAGA camp is ever in good faith. They know it's wrong, they don't care. They're devotees, reality doesn't matter, as long as whatever they're saying or doing "owns the libs". It's fucking profoundly dumb, and I'm really tired of hearing Fox News Zombies repeat the same tired, asinine, obviously false horse shit soundbites over and over again.

Every goddamn issue and thought, reduced to memes and gotchas. It's so stupid.

60

u/cthulhujr Nov 29 '22

Right. My partner's mom is totally against climate change because "she'll be dead". So my partner brings up her grandchild. It honestly seems to start working but then she just laughs and shrugs and throws out a "well it's not man-made so we can't do anything about it". She'd rather her granddaughter literally live in a hellworld than think about doing anything to fix it. It's sad really.

23

u/Yousername_relevance Nov 29 '22

On my 5th year of the same degree as your partner. Just fucking knowing all the details of all this stuff and seeing how some people can't or won't grasp it just brings up all the negative emotions.

→ More replies

13

u/weed_blazepot Nov 29 '22

This is what I don't get. So there's basically 4 possibilities, right? 1) It's man-made, 2) It's not man-made, 3) We can do something about it, 4) We cannot do something about it.

If it's man-made then we obviously can do something about it.

If it's not man-made, we either can or can't do something about it. If we can and we do, it's a positive. If we can and we don't, it's negligent. If we can't and we try, we only will end up inventing hundreds of other useful technologies and advances.

There's literally no moral or reasonable stance to not try and stop climate change. If it can be altered, we must. If it cannot be altered, we still come out ahead in science and technological advancement to make life more livable under the circumstances.

This isn’t even her idea. There’s some random meme from the early pandemic along the lines of “if cotton underpants and denim jeans can’t stop a fart, what makes you thing a mask can stop a deadly virus.”

Also, living overseas in a country where everyone still wears masks indoors, there are not “so many people” in the states still wearing masks. Every time I go back I think I see maybe 1 out of a couple hundred at the most.

And yeah, it ignores basically everything we understand about respiratory particles. But its intended to sew disinformation and mistrust, so it doesn’t need to be correct in the slightest. It just needs to “feel” true to people who want to believe what they want to believe.

106

u/Kaiisim Nov 29 '22

A mask stops respiratory particles, like underwear stops any liquid or solid particles in a fart... What I'm saying is, 'ol Marge just admitted to regularly shitting her pants.

59

u/captaincumsock69 Nov 29 '22

Tbh I’m pretty confident that if we all wore underwear and jeans over our mouths it would also help reduce viral transmission

12

u/Ocbard Nov 29 '22

In case of Covid and similar diseases the virus travels on moisture that you breath out. Also even a pretty flimsy mask will limit how far you blow your breath from you so to infect someone you'd need to get closer to them or spend more time in their surroundings.

To people who say, that a mask cannot help for reasons like that stupid bitch in OP, I ask if they can blow out a candle with the mask on, if they can't the mask also prevents them breathing and spitting on other people. It's not fool proof prevention, but it is a serious limiting factor to spreading the virus.

It makes me wonder if she's actually ever farted raw in the nude vs fully clothed. There's a difference man. The clothes negate some of it

184

u/OnceUponAPizza Nov 29 '22

I work in a kitchen. I've farted in the walk-in on numerous occasions. Worrying that I might be unintentionally contaminating food I looked up some info on food contamination and flatulence. It turns out that farting with clothes on does not transmit bacteria, but farting in the nude does.

What I love about this argument is that if you approach it with any amount of critical thinking, the only conclusion you can arrive at is that every hospital and sterile assembly line on earth has just arbitrarily made up a series of expensive, cumbersome, and entirely unnecessary procedures without ever having tested their validity.

Like, a hundred years of advancements in the field of medicine. Millions of hours of problem solving. But, no no, you didn't think about the fart and the high quality cotton underwear analogy, you bumbling moron. What about fart smells? Take off your mask you buffoon. What do you mean "research"? "Science"? Have you even thought about farts and thick, high quality cotton underwear?

129

u/PacJeans Nov 29 '22

That's literally the argument conservatives have been making since the pandemic, on multiple issues. Vaccination, covid severity, anything whatsoever the WHO says (that's the health organization for the entire world)

89

u/[deleted] Nov 29 '22

"But the WHO was wrong about covid before when they said hand sanitizer was better than masks!"

Yeah, kinda crazy how you can learn more as time goes on

67

u/SandaledGriller Nov 29 '22

Most of the "the WHO was wrong" comments come from misrepresentation of what the WHO said anyways.

Their only source for what the WHO said, is their pundits editorialized version. They couldn't be arsed to look it up themselves

43

u/DextrosKnight Nov 29 '22

I love when they complain about the WHO’s guidance changing. “They lied and said we don’t need masks! Now they say we do? Who’s paying them to say this!?”

Like ok, first of all, they didn’t lie. See, there’s this thing called learning, and as we learned more about the virus, our actions against it changed. This is not a conspiracy, this is literally how humans have survived as long as we have, because we can adapt to changes.

19

u/Taniwha_NZ Nov 29 '22

Sure, but if you formed your core beliefs about the world by having them handed to you at age 5, and you've never changed your mind about any of it, then seeing other people regularly update their opinions as new facts arrive must be terrifying. They don't live in a world where beliefs get updated to match reality. In their world, reality that disagreees with existing beliefs must be rejected, usually because it's a plot against your people by satan's people.

22

u/carlitospig Nov 29 '22

The only thing I’m really bummed about this is that my employer in 2020 created a giant pool of PTO-Sick time. We basically get a month off if we ever get Covid - and I never did. We also have our sick time in the Extended Leave format, meaning the only time you can access sick time is if you’re sick for at least three days, otherwise you have to pull from your vacation (seriously, worst policy ever since folks will just go to work sick - and we are in healthcare).

But alllll that free time I can’t access? 😭

I don't have sources right now, but an experiment was performed to see if underwear does protect others from a fart. They do, surgeons perform surgery for a ridiculously long time sometimes, they needed to know if it was sanitary to release gas in the surgery as opposed to stepping out and having to re-scrub every time. The smell still exists, but the infectious particles are held tight.

Some of these people are legit dumb about this (not that you didn't know that).

I was listening to the end of the Dan Bongino show because my local station decided to let him intrude on our sports station. Anyway, he has a caller and this is what he says:

"Ever use a garden hose and put your thumb over the end to make the pressure shoot out higher? Trying to stop it, you actually pressurize it. That's what these masks do. They actually aeresolize the virus."

Dan Bongino: "Well there you heard it, guys. He's right."

These are the morons that are championed.

It’s actually a pretty great argument in favor of masks: https://www.discovermagazine.com/the-sciences/do-farts-carry-germs-well-it-depends-on-whether-you-are-wearing-pants

tl;dr: clothing acts as a filter preventing fecal bacteria from escaping your pants. Much in the same way masks work.

And an N-95 mask will generally filter smells.

359

u/cptnamr7 Nov 29 '22 edited Nov 29 '22

I was going to say- there was a legit study done to make sure underwear filtered them enough for surgery rooms. The result was that, yes, they did.

Edit: So aside from being a false analogy, she's even incorrect about the underwear filtering. Unless she regularly shits her pants. And she definitseems like the type of person that has done so at least once in her adult life

It’s my understanding that the molecules you can smell are only a handful of atoms in size, way too small to be filtered. An individual SARS-CoV-2 viron is thousands of time larger, and a droplet with enough virus to infect is a million times larger.

32

u/squishpitcher Nov 29 '22

The distinction here is whether fabric you wear will prevent you from other people’s germs, or protect others from your germs.

The general consensus is that cloth will protect others but isn’t going to necessarily protect you.

However, an N95 mask will do both; protect you and others. Both from farts and from COVID.

Now I just imagined my life without pants, I'm super gassy and lactose intolerant with an insatiable craving for dairy products. What do nudists do when they have diarrhea? I'd have to have towels on every surface I sit on I think.

WhY usE suNscreEn?

If a bullet from a gun can pierce your body, and sun particles are much faster and smaller, how do you think you are going to prevent sunburn?

Next you will tell me you use bulletscreen...

Wake up sheeple, sunscreen was made by big pharma to mind control the population!!1

Ironically enough, she belongs to the same political movement selling bulletproof backpacks for schoolchildren. Bulletscreen indeed.

68

u/Macrophage87 Nov 29 '22

That don't even meet the standards to deal with the high-powered rifles used in most mass shootings (mainly AR-15 style), just the lesser handguns. Most handgun rounds can be stopped with a thick textbook anyway.

63

u/Strange-Scarcity Nov 29 '22

Then little kids need bulletproof backpacks FILLED with SUPER thick and heavy textbooks about how awesome JAYZUSS is!

31

u/Technical-Traffic871 Nov 29 '22

No textbooks allowed, they might learn something. They all need bibles. God will protect them!

are we still talking about masks?

89

u/Buffmin Nov 29 '22

Republicans are. All they do is recycle talking points to keep their mindless base enraged. Im.sure caravans will make a sudden reappearance like after biden was sworn in

17

u/DM_ME_DOPAMINE Nov 29 '22

I have many family members who are instantly triggered when they see people masked up. I truly do NOT understand the logic. “ITS NOT EVEN DOING ANYTHING!!!”

Ok, not true, and it’s also not affecting you that they were masked. STFU.

17

u/Buffmin Nov 29 '22

I have that too. My current theory is seeing people mask up makes them, deep down, realize they're being selfish assholes by refusing and they lack the emotional maturity to deal with it so they just try to make themselves feel better via mocking

Or said another way they're selfish assholes

11

u/DM_ME_DOPAMINE Nov 29 '22

I don’t know, at least not in this particular pairs case? They seem genuinely ANGRY, like there’s visible anger on their face and in their voice. One example was we went to get breakfast and a family of 4 had 2 masked seniors. Immediately caused them to get this mix of anger and frustration solely about folks being masked, then go back to their regular resting bitch faces.

It’s weird. I’m autistic ex bartender so I’m excellent at both detecting patterns and an expert in reading body language and faces. I think that’s why it confuses me so much. I can not, for the life of me, understand what process is occurring in those tiny brains to produce that much anger over strangers with paper over their mouths.

Because COVID 19 mostly travels on droplets of spit and other liquids when you cough and sneeze, which dont typically stay suspended for very long. A mask prevents those droplets from traveling when expelled. Where as farts are gas molecules. A molecule is drastically smaller in magnitude than a virus. To stop a gas molecule, one would need a hepa filter. A virus is NOT a gas molecule.

*EDIT Hepa filters dont filter gases.

Does that answer the question? Can someone tell her?

19

u/quantainium_pasta Nov 29 '22

This. I'd like to know exactly how many times larger a sneezed droplet with is, compared to a methane molecule please. 🤣

12

u/3eyedflamingo Nov 29 '22

Its microns vs nanometers. A molecule is an order of 1000 times smaller than a virus.

No joke, a conservative boomer type told me he thought the world’s sperm count has declined because they’re growing meat in labs now, and that will be available soon!

It reminded me of this exercise in preschool where we’d line up pictures of story scenes in the correct order. Maybe the GOP just need to do some linear time exercises…

15

u/Capable_Stranger9885 Nov 29 '22

World sperm count might be dropping from hormonally active environmental pollutants, but the day I see the conservative base rallying to limit Monsanto and Archer Daniels Midland from flooding the entire midwest with glyphosate, I just might have to vote for a Republican.
